John Robey
Welcome.
Reaching out for support is a courageous decision.
Before establishing Good Journey Counselling, I spent 16 years working within a major corporate institution. This background gives me a real-world understanding of how modern workplace pressures, structural changes, and intense environments can trigger and sustain deep-seated anxiety and low mood.
More recently, working as a specialist case manager and coach within the charity sector, I navigated complex mental health environments, coordinating care directly with NHS teams and adult social care to support vulnerable individuals.
I established my private practice to provide a grounded, compassionate, and confidential space where individuals facing unexpected life challenges can dismantle chronic anxiety, work through depression, and reclaim control over their lives.
Training and Experience
I undertook four years of counselling training before beginning my professional practice. I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I offer face-to-face counselling in Leamington Spa and South Warwickshire, as well as secure online video counselling UK-wide. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, mild to moderate OCD and relationship issues. I also help those with Klinefelter syndrome who are struggling with their sense of self or identity.
Lived Experience
My approach as an counsellor is profoundly shaped by my own lived experiences. At 16 years old, I was diagnosed with a genetic disorder. It was a shock that brought unique psychological, physical, and emotional challenges, completely altering how I viewed my identity and my future.
Navigating the complexities of a diagnosis, alongside my own historical chapters with anxiety, depression and OCD, gave me a raw, firsthand appreciation of how destabilising it is when life doesn't turn out quite how you expected.
I do not assume your story is the same as mine. Every person’s mountain to climb is entirely unique. My role is to listen to your story, understand and equip you with the ability to manage or overcome your adversities.
My Influences, Fantasy and Counselling
Growing up in the 1980s, I lived in a world of action heroes, villains, and monsters through films and television. I was an avid fan of renting movies from the local corner shop or Hollywood Movie stores. I spent hours walking up and down the aisles in awe at the possibilities of adventure and other worldly stories.
I'm fascinated by stories and by the different journeys people take. In counselling, we are all authors of our own lives, but sometimes we get stuck in a painful chapter, repeating old patterns that no longer serve us. I view our therapeutic work as a partnership. Together, with empathy, openness, and curiosity, we can map out where your story has been, what is real and meaningful for you right now, and how you want your next chapters to look.
Your story matters. And you don’t have to know how it ends before you choose to begin the journey.
