About Me – John Robey

Welcome, I'm John.

Becoming a counsellor wasn't something I always planned to do. My own experiences of life, including periods of anxiety, depression and difficult times, gradually led me to become interested in understanding people, their experiences and the stories they carry with them.

I discovered that I wanted to do more than simply understand these things for myself. I wanted to create a space where other people could feel heard and understood without judgement, and where they could explore their own experiences at their own pace. That eventually led me to train as an integrative counsellor and, in 2025, to establish Good Journey Counselling.

Training and Experience

I undertook four years of counselling training before beginning my professional practice, including two years at the Maple Leaf Counselling & Training Centre in Illshaw Heath, Solihull, where I completed a Diploma in Integrative Counselling.

I established Good Journey Counselling in 2025 and offer face-to-face counselling in Leamington Spa and South Warwickshire, as well as online counselling. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life changes and issues connected with Klinefelter Syndrome.

Lived Experience

My interest in counselling has been shaped by my own experiences of anxiety, depression and trauma. I was diagnosed with Klinefelter Syndrome at 16, something that was a huge curve ball in my life and brought its own challenges.

Those experiences have given me a deeper appreciation of how difficult it can be when life doesn't turn out quite as we expected. They have also contributed to my desire to help others explore their own experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

I don't believe that my experiences are the same as anyone else's. Every person's story is unique, and my role as a counsellor is to listen to and understand your story rather than assume I already know it.

My Influences, Fantasy and Counselling

Growing up, I lived in a world of action heroes, villains and monsters through films, books and television. I particularly enjoyed the Choose Your Own Adventure style fantasy books of the 1970s and 1980s, and I've retained a lifelong interest in fantasy and science-fiction films and the worlds they create.

I'm fascinated by stories and by the different journeys people take. In counselling, I find myself naturally drawn to the stories clients bring with them, the experiences that have shaped them, the patterns that have developed along the way and the possibilities for where their story might go next.

I offer an experiential space where we can work together to explore what is real and meaningful for you, through empathy, openness and curiosity.

Your story matters. And you don't have to know how the story ends before beginning the journey.
